Tree Tenders

Established in 1993, Tree Tenders starts with a basic training course designed to teach general tree-care skills to organized community groups and individuals in Greater Philadelphia. After completing the basic training, graduate Tree Tenders may choose from a series of continuing education sessions on a variety of tree-related topics.

The Tree Tenders basic training course covers community tree care, proper pruning practices, and tree pit care. The groups also learn about organization-building and grant writing so they may raise their own funds for new street trees and maintenance. Today, there are over 1,900 Tree Tenders from 150 neighborhoods in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
