Planting Trees Across the City
In March, participants in PHS’s Tree Tenders project planted
close to 1,200 bare-root trees throughout the area, thanks to funding from TreeVitalize, a state program that aims to restore the tree canopy in southeastern Pennsylvania.
After the week-
long planting, Tree Tenders project manager Mindy Maslin learned that the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association (PLNA) wanted to donate additional bare-root trees to TreeVitalize. Since bare-root trees must be planted as soon as possible, Maslin quickly found homes for them at three historic cemeteries (Laurel Hill, Fairhill, and the Woodlands) the Northern Home for Children, and two schools (Longstreth Elementary and the Miquon School).
“By the end of a single day we had planted 72 more trees,” says Maslin with pride.
