Become a Great City Gardener
PHS holds workshops all year long, many of which demonstrate how horticulture
can improve the quality of life--a vital aspect of Philadelphia
Green's work. A leader in community education, these programs offer
courses, workshops, and technical assistance to residents, as well
as community organizations and city agencies, to help them beautify
and maintain the city's green landscapes.
Its Tree
Tenders classes teach city residents how to plant and
care for trees along neighborhood streets and in parks. Garden
Tenders classes teach aspiring green thumbs how to
start and tend their own community gardens. In both training programs,
participants learn to create viable, self-sustaining organizations,
acquiring skills like fund-raising and volunteer recruitment, in
addition to horticulture.
In neighborhood locations throughout the city, Philadelphia
Green presents lectures on a variety of gardening topics through
its City Gardening
Series.
