This year Philadelphia Green hosted the 9th annual "Spring Into Your Park." This city-wide event served to kick off the spring season with park cleanups, educational activities, flea markets, plant sales and music festivals in our parks. Last year 2000 volunteers helped revitalize 60 parks throughout Philadelphia. Besides tossing 2,000 bags of trash and debris, they also planted over 2,000 annuals and nearly 100 trees.
This collaborative event--co-sponsored by the members of the parks network, PHS, the Department of Recreation, and Fairmount Park, and with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Great PA Cleanup--is designed to highlight the importance of parks in community life and the strength of the citywide parks network.
Philadelphia Green was thrilled that the April 26th date coincides with National Youth Service Day this year.
