Use this knowledge to participate in the SafeLawns Challenge, a pledge to manage your lawn using organic methods. Your pledge will help Safe Lawns to reach their goal of one million acres managed organically by 2010.
Penn State Solves Your Pest Problems
The Pest Problem Solver website compiles resources created by several Penn State departments to lend a hand as you deal with the many types of pests that plague various crops and locations. They’ll help you create your own happy valley.

PHS McLean Library News
McLean Library Book Sale
Mark your calendar to attend the McLean Library Book Sale on Tuesday, October 2, 9:30 am - 5 pm in the library. Buy new gardening books at up to a 50 percent discount and used gardening classics at exceptional prices.
At 11:30, Carmen Herrera von Wrangell will show you how to create a Garden Book, where you can record information on how your garden has changed over time and the improvements you've made. Carmen has been gardening organically at Furball Cottage for 25 years. Her garden is a Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat.
Donations for this sale—used gardening books, natural history books and cook books in good condition—will be accepted until September 21. Drop books off at the McLean Library, 20th and Arch Streets, Philadelphia, between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Volunteers are needed for the 9th annual Fall For Your Park, held jointly this year at Cobbs Creek Park, the Laura Sims Skatehouse, and the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center in West Philadelphia. Have a hand in the transformation that will occur as park advocates from across the city and neighborhood residents work together to improve the site for all to enjoy. The Wired Gardener is issued 10 times a year (no July or December issue) on the 1st of the month. We post notices of gardening events and give precedence to Philadelphia-area events. Deadline: the 15th of the month for listing in the next month's issue. Send brief details and contact information by email and reference "Wired Gardener" in the subject line. Press releases are not accepted. Please review and follow the format used in our Other Gardening News and Events section.
