INDIVIDUAL VEGETABLE GARDEN: Any size front or backyard garden, containing mostly vegetables. This garden should not be an individual plot within a community garden.
COMMUNITY VEGETABLE GARDEN: A garden where three or more neighbors garden together and grow mostly vegetables. The garden will be judged in its entirety, not as individual plots.
INDIVIDUAL FLOWER GARDEN: Any size front or backyard garden, containing mostly flowers and/or trees and shrubs. Herb gardens will be included in this category.
COMMUNITY FLOWER/SITTING GARDEN: A garden where three or more neighbors garden together. It usually is planted with shrubs, flowers, and/or trees. It may have a bench, picnic table or barbecue area.
INDIVIDUAL COMBINATION VEGETABLE/FLOWER GARDEN: A front or backyard garden combining vegetables and flowers not always exactly 50/50 but where both make a significant impact. This is not a vegetable garden with a few flowers planted in it or a flower garden with a few tomato plants.
COMMUNITY COMBINATION VEGETABLE/FLOWER GARDEN: A community garden with three or more gardeners growing vegetables and flowers not always exactly 50/50 but where one or the other makes a significant impact. This is not a vegetable garden with a few flowers planted in it or a flower garden with a few tomato plants.
GARDEN BLOCK: A block where a majority of the residents display window boxes and street planters containing shrubs and/or flowers.
GREENEST BLOCK IN TOWN: A tree lined block where residents garden in their front yards. The block may also include containers along the sidewalks.
CONTAINER GARDEN: Can be a front or backyard or common area with most plants grown in containers.
CHILDREN'S GARDEN: A home garden, a school garden or a plot within a community garden maintained primarily by school age children, usually under adult supervision.
BUSINESS GARDEN: Plantings around a business or commercial venture.
PARKS: A neighborhood park with planting beds.
