 | | Thursday, April 16, 2009 | 10:00am - Noon Regional Program: Pressing and Creating Designs for Fun and Competition Presented by Eugene Burkhart Open to the public and members
Internationally recognized floral designer, lecturer, and pressed flower artist Eugene Burkhart has entered flower shows throughout the United States and the world since he was six years old. His philosophy: “The way nature has fashioned flowers gives us a great but short-lived pleasure and delight. I enjoy capturing this delight by pressing and drying plant material to have the perfect medium for creating pictures, designs, and decorative items for lasting beauty.” He is a skilled and award-winning instructor as well, with more than 35 years experience teaching audiences of all skill levels. In his studio at the GoggleWorks in Reading, PA, Gene will present a brief history of pressed plants; demonstrate how to press plants using a telephone book and plant press; discuss different designs, from botanicals to whole flower designs to intricate cut-work creations; and help you create your own design—matted and ready for an 8 x 10-inch frame. Bring a pair of scissors. Directions will be mailed with registration. Limit: 20.
