Do you love to watch movies and talk about them? Join us in this film discussion series where we’ll talk about movies in which nature, gardens, or the environment play starring or supporting roles. We’ll look at themes of redemption and restoration; what happens when nature goes awry; and our never-ending quest to live in harmony with the environment. Participants are asked to view the film before the discussion. Light refreshments will be served at the discussion.
March film: 'The Secret of Roan Inish' (1994, John Sayles, dir. 103 min. USA) There will be a screening of this film at 4 pm in the library conference room.
SYNOPSIS:
Ten-year-old Fiona is sent to live with her grandparents in a small fishing village in Donegal, Ireland where she learns the local legend that an ancestor of hers married a Selkie - a seal who can turn into a human. Years earlier, her baby brother washed out to sea in a cradle shaped like a boat; someone in the family believes the boy is being raised by the seals.
