 | | Tuesday, July 8, 2008 | 10:00am - Noon IN THE GARDEN: Andalusia Open to the public and members
Located just 13 miles upstream from central Philadelphia on the picturesque banks of the Delaware River, Andalusia was the country estate of the Craig and Biddle families for more than 200 years. The Greek revival house is furnished in a variety of American period styles, and has been left as intact as possible to show how the family lived. The grounds feature a partially restored grapery dating to the mid nineteenth century, when the family established a commercial grape venture; a grotto built as a Gothic ruin in the 1830s; a walled garden brimming with heirloom and hybrid tea roses; perennial beds; a dog cemetery; and a lovely river walk along the Delaware.
Our guided tours will include the house and gardens, and you are free to bring a lunch to enjoy on the grounds afterward. Directions will be mailed with your registration confirmation. Limit: 30.
