 | | Wednesday, July 9, 2008 | 6:00pm - 8:00pm Chanticleer Class: Botany for Beginners Presented by Robert Herald Open to the public and members
Have you ever wondered how lilies differ from daylilies and how they are related, or why abutilon is related to rose-of Sharon? Using Chanticleer’s flower gardens as our laboratory, Robert Herald will discuss basic facts of plant morphology and how this relates to classification and identification. During this hands-on class, we will learn how to look at garden plants with a botanist’s eye. Leaf shapes and arrangement, plant habit, and flower parts will be investigated using simple terms and explanations.
This class is ideal for gardeners who want to gain a deeper understanding of plants. The evening will conclude with the identification of a variety of garden plants using a botanical key. Limit: 25.
