NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS TO CELEBRATE SUMMER...
with Hitchcock, Shirley Temple and Shrek
Philadelphia, Summer 2007 – Local volunteer park groups, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Green Program, Fairmount Park and the Philadelphia Department of Recreation will present the Summer in the Neighborhood Series featuring everything from the sounds of classical, jazz, gospel and reggae to showings of family-friendly movies like “Akeelah and the Bee,” blockbusters such as “Dreamgirls,” and classic films from Alfred Hitchcock.
More than 100 events, all free and open to the public, will be held at more than 30 local parks.
Since 1993, Philadelphia Green has helped community groups clean up and improve landscapes at more than 60 parks as part of its “Parks Revitalization Project,” which receives major funding by the William Penn Foundation as well as from local fundraising efforts. Philadelphia Green partners with the city’s Department of Recreation, the Fairmount Park Commission, and community groups to make parks an integral part of urban life.
For a complete list of events, check below or check the PHS website at www.pennsylvaniahorticulturalsociety.org or call 215-988-1611.
