Michael W. Groman
Senior Director of State and National Outreach
Building on his former role as head of Philadelphia Green, PHS's acclaimed urban greening program, Michael Groman is now heading a new venture to extend the Philadelphia Green model, and its learnings, to other municipalities in the Philadelphia region and across the state of Pennsylvania. A major goal is to help them create safer, cleaner and greener communities for people to live, work, and play.
At the national scale, Michael is responsible for establishing PHS as a resource to cities that are looking to establish urban-greening programs of their own. He develops strategic partnerships with complementary national programs and organizations and provides consulting services on a variety of urban greening topics. Michael also directs research and data collection on urban greening issues including social, environmental and economic impacts; best practices; and innovative applications and makes it accessible to national audiences to support their promotion and advocacy needs.
Michael has been with PHS for 20 years and is a planner by trade. Formerly, Michael was a Project Manager with BCM Engineers, Inc., providing environmental planning services to various municipalities in the Philadelphia/South Jersey region. He also worked as a Community Planner with the Montgomery County Planning Commission in Pennsylvania. He received a B.S. in Environmental Resource Management from Penn State University and a Masters Degree in Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the LEADERSHIP, INC. and currently serves on a number of boards including Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, the Philadelphia Land Trust and the West Pikeland Land Trust in Chester County.
