A Green Makeover for City Hall

WHAT: “CITY HALL IN BLOOM” SPRING PLANTING
The recently restored exterior of City Hall will receive a green makeover on the ground level, as hundreds of annuals, perennials and shrubs are planted in the beds and containers that surround the building and line the interior Courtyard. Staff members of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Green program, Fairmount Park, Ready, Willing & Able, and students from the St. Francis Xavier School in Spring Garden will participate in the 18th annual “City Hall in Bloom.”

WHEN: Wednesday, May 20
8:30 a.m. Tool distribution and work begins
9:30 a.m. Remarks by officials and St. Francis student
10 a.m. Plantings and cleanup
Noon Conclusion

WHERE: Opening remarks at the northwest corner of City Hall in Dilworth Plaza.
Plantings will take place around the exterior of City Hall and in the Courtyard.

J. Blaine Bonham Jr., Executive Vice President, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society
Mark Focht, Executive Director, Fairmount Park Commission
Student from St. Francis Xavier School

The yearly planting is a joint project coordinated by PHS and Fairmount Park to emphasize the cooperation between organizations, businesses, schools and local government, and the city’s support for urban greening programs.
